Magnetic Resonance Imaging or “MRI” is one of the most accurate ways to examine the soft tissue areas of the body. It is a painless, noninvasive procedure that uses no ionizing radiation (x-ray). Instead, MRI combines computer technology with a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create multiple pictures of the inside of the body. These images can be obtained in multiple planes of the body, thus creating a three-3 dimensional map of the area under study. Magnetic field strength is an important factor determining image quality.
Benefits of Summit Radiology’s MRI:
- Wide open bore, high field MRI - our scanner has a 1.5T magnet and an opening of 70cm which is almost 2 ½ feet wide. The bore length is only 3’10” which means the average person has some part of their body outside the magnet. Anyone who has been in the closed bore magnet appreciates the roomy feel of Summit’s short, wide-open bore.
- The table limit is 550 lbs which is the highest in the area.
- Our MR Technologist is trained and registered to perform the necessary scans required by your physician.
- The 1.5T magnet offers the high-resolution needed for all exams, including detailed orthopedic & neurological exams and shortens the scan time.
- Fellowship trained radiologists on staff providing subspecialist reads for orthopedic and neurology cases.
- Specialized computer software corrects for patient movement, eliminating the discomfort to the patient of restarting the scan.
Computed Tomography or “CT” scanner uses X-rays, a type of ionizing radiation, to acquire its images, making it a good tool for examining tissue composed of denser tissue, such as bone and calcifications (calcium based) within the body (carbon based flesh) or of structures (vessels, bowel).
Benefits of Summit Radiology’s CT:
- 16-slice scanner exposes the patient to less radiation than other older models.
- Due to the efficiency of the test the patient has a shorter breath hold. (link to Siemens)
